Bathtub to walk-in shower conversion in 1 to 2 days
How long does a tub-to-shower conversion take?
Usually 1 to 2 days. We take out the bathtub and install a leak-proof BestBath roll-in shower you can step or roll into, backed by BestBath's 30-year warranty; we are an authorized BestBath dealer. It is the fastest fix for a tub that has become hard to step over, and the Safety Refresh price above is the starting point.
Walk-in showers, roll-in showers and curbless showers
What is the difference between a walk-in shower and a roll-in shower?
A walk-in shower has a low or no threshold you step over. A roll-in shower is curbless, a zero-entry shower with no threshold at all, so a wheelchair or walker goes straight in. We fit both with a fold-down bench, a handheld shower and grab bars. Ask us for a tiled shower designed around the room, or a BestBath system for speed.
Why does a zero-entry shower matter?
It removes the step, which is the tripping hazard, and makes getting in and out safer whether you walk, use a walker or use a chair.
Handicap and ADA compliant bathrooms at home
Can you build an ADA compliant bathroom in a house?
Yes. ADA is written for public buildings, but its dimensions are the right ones at home too, and we build to them: grab bars at the right heights, a 60-inch turning circle where the room allows, doorways widened to 32 inches or more, and to 36 inches on a custom remodel, a comfort-height toilet, a shower seat and a handheld shower. A wheelchair accessible vanity that looks like a standard cabinet, with clearance underneath.
Who are the handicap bathroom remodel contractors at LiveWell?
Our own crews, employed by us, licensed and insured, who do nothing but accessibility work: design, construction and installation under one contractor, one plan, one number. We do not outsource the bathroom to a subcontractor.
Bathroom remodels for seniors and aging in place
What should a bathroom have for someone staying at home as they age?
Start with the shower: curbless, with a bench and a handheld. Then grab bars at the toilet and in the shower, a comfort-height toilet, a doorway a walker fits through, open storage at eye level, lighting that comes on by itself, and non-slip flooring. We plan the room for the needs that are coming, not only the ones today, so it does not need doing twice.
Grab bars and shower safety without a remodel
Can you install grab bars without remodeling the bathroom?
Yes. Grab bars, a shower seat, a handheld shower, a raised toilet seat and anti-slip flooring, fitted into the bathroom you have, usually in one visit. The small job that makes the room safe this week.
Accessible bathrooms in Austin homes
What do you do most around Austin?
Compact zero-entry showers and doorway widening in the older single-storey homes near downtown with narrow hallways and small baths; tub-to-shower conversions in Pflugerville's single-storey homes with curbed tubs; ground-floor bathroom conversions in the two-storey homes of Round Rock, Cedar Park and Leander; and in Georgetown's active-adult communities, walk-in showers and grab bars installed before they are urgent.
Where around Austin do you work?
Austin and the surrounding communities, north to Georgetown and south to San Marcos: Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander, Pflugerville, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Kyle, Buda and San Marcos.
Paying for an accessible bathroom
Does Medicare, insurance or the VA pay for a bathroom remodel?
Medicare's own policy says home modifications are not covered. Veterans: the VA's HISA grant is written for exactly this, a roll-in shower and the grab bars, doorway and plumbing that go with it, up to its limit; our HISA grant guide explains the packet and the wait. Texas waiver programs cover bathroom changes up to their own limits; our who pays for it page lists them. Most of our projects are paid for by the family, with financing and payment plans available.

Has a wheelchair changed your needs?
Maybe you or a loved one needs a more accessible bathroom? We are creative with modifications. We can widen doors, use barn doors, replace tubs with showers.
Is it difficult to reach what you need?
Maybe you can't reach the faucet , toiletries, or get close to the mirror? We can add open storage, eye-level shelves, automated lighting, add under-sink clearance, and move towel racks.
Are you bathing less frequently?
Maybe you are afraid of falling or have difficulty accessing the shower? We can help with curbless (zero-step) showers, grab bars, shower seats, handheld showers, and transfer benches.
